Last week I attended an event hosted by Seeds in the Middle called Chef’s Night. High School exchange students from Turkey came to (public school) P.S.221 in Brooklyn to play soccer and cook food with the elementary school kids there.
Playing soccer in the gym of P.S. 221.
It was a night of running, laughing, cooking, eating, and sharing. The kids got to run out their energy in the gym, playing soccer, then experience some traditional Turkish home-cookin’ afterward.
Students learn knife skills that they can take home and apply in their own kitchens.
The kids were taught about fresh ingredients, healthy eating, knife skills and cooking techniques, and I have to say, they all had a blast. The kitchen smelled great and the food was delicious.
Chef Rachel Wingfield talks to the kids and parents about healthy eating habbits.
Seeds in the Middle, named by fourth graders in central Brooklyn, inspires parents, educators, students and their community to access all the opportunities New York City has to offer, beginning with improving their health, enhancing arts education and greening their environment.
