Sixpoint Craft Ales Has Food On The Roof

Published on March 30, 2010 by in Farms

There is always a lot of discussion among cyclists on what’s the best beverage for recovery after a long ride. Some go the protein drink route, some get their kicks off the electrolytes of their favorite sports drinks, even chocolate milk has been thrown out there as the end-all be-all in muscle recovery.

I know that when I am on the bike I’m not thinking about some soy protein drink that tastes like chocolate flavored dirt. At mile 72 with home just a few minutes away and only one hill left all I can think about is a cold, delicious, hoppy glass of quality beer. One of the best, in my opinion, is Sixpoint Sweet Action. Sweet Action being just one of the quality brews produced by the Sixpoint Brewers in Redhook Brooklyn.

You can imagine it tickled my matching spandex to hear that one of my favorite beer companies was turning old kegs into planters. I follow them on Facebook and they frequently post photos of what they’re working on. A series of e-mails later Kate and I were standing in awe in front of the brewery on a rainy Monday afternoon.

We met with Cathy Erway who has a fantastic blog http://noteatingoutinny.com/

We talked food for a bit, and she showed Kate and I their on going project located just outside the window of the upstairs office.

SP_kegs_topviewTaking recycling to a new level the mad craftsmen of Sixpoint took old and damaged kegs and converted them into planters to grow food.

  1. Dude, just heard you on Stern (I’m still catching up from back in Feb). Did Bike Across America last year (on a green Surley of all things) and thinking South America next. Dig the idea behind the trip. Definitely make it happen.
